Ed Duvall - 2008

Ed was a great friend and a great fisherman.  He was a professional who enjoyed his work.  He was a great person to be around who could lift your spirit with his charm and wit.  He will be missed !

OBITUARY (as published on the Pfeifer Funeral Home, Reynoldsburg, OH website):  John “ED” Edward Duvall, Jr., age 59, of Pickerington, formerly of Akron, went home suddenly to be with both his earthly & heavenly Fathers on April 5, 2008. He was born May 29, 1948 to the late John Edward and Bette M. Duvall, Sr. (Tanish) in Akron. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Mary; Children; Denise (Tony) Wahoff of Pickerington, Michelle (Adrian) Munt and Dan (Bethany) Duvall, both of Canal Winchester; grandchildren, Hayden, Mason, Adam, Maddy, Maya; brothers, Mike and Charles (Karen) Duvall; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed retired as Lieutenant after 30 years from the Akron Police Department. He was a highly commended officer, receiving numerous citations and commendations, including “Ohio Peace Officer of the Year” and “IACP/Parade Magazine Police Officer of the Year”. He was also featured in several magazines and news programs. Ed worked in most every capacity in Akron PD, but was most proud of being Commander of the Juvenile Bureau and helping to establish Internal Affairs. Most recently, Ed was appointed Deputy Dir. of the ODPS Investigative Unit, serving 6 years and Chief Ranger for Licking County Parks. Mr. Duvall has trained thousands of law enforcement officers at the Federal, State and local level. Ed will be remembered mostly as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 10, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm and on Friday from 11am-Noon at the PFEIFER FUNERAL HOME, Reynoldsburg. A funeral service will held in our Chapel on Friday 12 pm following the visitation with Rev. Dr. Bob Denton and Rev. Rick Williams officiating. Burial in Violet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John Edward Duvall, Jr.’s memory to the Furnace Street Mission, Chaplaincy Program, P.O.Box 444, Akron, OH. 44309, to benefit his wife Mary.
