PETER FALK: 1927-2011 -- Actor Peter Falk, who walked around solving murders with a basset hound under his arm as the beloved TV detective Lt. Columbo, died on June 24 in his Beverly Hills home. He was 83 and his daughter Catherine said he had been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. In 2009, a court put him under a conservatorship. Falk had a long list of stage, movie and television acting credits, but he was best known for playing the rumpled Columbo, who solved cases by pretending to be dumber than the perps he always nailed.
