CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS: 1949-2011 -- Christopher Hitchens, the bombastic journalist, author and left-wing lightning rod — died on Dec. 15 after a battle with cancer. He was 62. Vanity Fair magazine, for which Hitchens was an editor for many years, described him as 'an incomparable critic, masterful rhetorician, fiery wit, and fearless bon vivant.' He is survived by his wife, the writer Carol Blue, and three children.
