CLARENCE CLEMONS: 1942-2011 -- Clarence Clemons, the towering E Street Band saxophonist whose giant presence onstage, booming sound and brotherly bond with Bruce Springsteen made him one of rock's most revered figures, died on June 17 at the age of 69. He passed away at a hospital in Palm Beach, Fla., of complications from a stroke he suffered the weekend prior. Known as the Big Man, Clemons' distinctive sound on the sax and characteristic cool inspired reverence from fans and the Boss himself. As the original E Street Band's oldest member, he was its conscience and soul.
