DAN WHELDON: 1978-2011 -- British racing driver Dan Wheldon, the winner of this year's Indy 500 and one of the world's most popular drivers, was killed in a fiery 15-car crash the Las Vegas Indy 300 on Oct. 16, after his car flew over another just minutes into the race and smashed into the wall outside turn 2. The race was canceled after Wheldon was airlifted from the track to University Medical Center. Wheldon left behind his wife, Susie Behm, and two sons.
